Q & A with Craig Silverman
Tuesday, May 11, 2004 -
Q&A Craig Silverman, Denver defense lawyer and a legal analyst on the Kobe Bryant case. Q: What is it about this case that attracts you? A: It's a rare confluence of two things that I know a lot about: the prosecution of sexual assault and basketball. I also love participating in or covering big court cases. Q: Is it easier to be a Monday-morning quarterback than be in the arena? A: My position involves less work and less stress. The thing that I love about commentating is that normally you only have a few minutes to prepare. When it comes to a trial, there are months of rigorous preparation and paperwork before you get a chance to express yourself in court. Q: Do you have any difficulty reconciling being a fan with being a legal analyst? A: I've thought about that. I had no bigger sports hero growing up than O.J. Simpson, and I was absolutely convinced that he was guilty. I don't know if Kobe Bryant raped this young lady or not. But I have commented on the difficulty I think the prosecution will have in proving it. ... But you know, I don't know Kobe Bryant. I've never met Kobe Bryant. There's nothing personal there. |
